Minneapolis Frostbike 2015 by Chad DeGroot
Up at 3:30am and its 30 degrees out. Perfect time for a cup of joe but I have to go get this flight. Get to check-in and I have to check a small box that is 12"x12"x12". I get my ticket and the attendant says the box is oversize. A simple point at the box and a jaw drop face. He doesn't charge me so it's all good...but oversized? Kidding me. So off to get coffee, but the line is 30 deep with as many waiting to get their milkshakes. I just wanted hot black mud. Grab a banana that I can't eat since its to green, sip on some scorching joe, and get an alert my shop front door just set off the alarm. Damn, now my stomche is hurting and I feel helpless. Good thing my lady drives up there to check on the break in and I can see all looks fine with cameras on an app in my phone plus a popo is parked out front. They shut the plane door just as I cleared all this up in a text and phone call panic. Stomach is better after a mud flight mud session and as I get out a gentleman asks me if I'm a pro biker. I kindly say YES. He said he loves the xgames and watches with his kids and gives me a hot hand bump with some cool words to follow up. Gaze out the window to see the reason for the name Frostbike. Midwest white out. Snow everywhere and a feeling of chilly times ahead. As I look out the window I realize xgames isn't really the same without dirt and now street. Sad days man. Very sad for all of us plus the new fans. This guy is real excited, so now him and his kids will tune in this year with disappointing results at what TV is doing. Entertaining yes, but...
The Qbp crew really makes Frostbike accommodating and smooth. It is trade show but more a gathering of a select few brands featuring their products to dealers and buyers. Food was great. Shuttle service was often and on time. And the hotel was amazing right downtown so plenty to do and convenient.
